PSYCHOTHERAPY

In Psychotherapy your work could be focused on the:

  • Here and now, immediate issues, problem solving, blocks for achievement, etc.
  • On the past, early childhood, emotionally vulnerable or even painful experiences, gaining insight for making changes in the present

Whatever the focus, it’s very important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, so that you can feel as open as possible. It’s likely that you will feel at lest some discomfort with the experience of sharing your deeper emotions, negative experiences, dreams, etc., with someone that you don’t know well (or with anyone). Sharing very deep emotions such as embarrassment, humiliation, and shame can be hard for anyone.

It’s important that you separate your discomfort of the experience and your discomfort of your therapist. Unless you can identify the therapist’s negative behavior, give him or her a chance. Very negative, unprofessional, of unethical behavior should be reported to the therapist’s state licensing board. We will then develop the personal structure designed to propel you past your issues and on to creating the life that you want. It’s my experience that most people who come into therapy need to be educated, guided, and supported to do what they want to do, and may already know what they need to do.
